Fair warning this is going to wander a bit. Also, language. You’ve been warned.

Kinja'd!!!

Buying this or the one below?

Kinja'd!!!

You are buying this one.

I’ve noticed, almost without fail, that when an article gets posted to the front page about pick’em up trucks people come out of the woodwork to tell everyone to stop getting trucks because they only need to tow/haul/move something three times a year.

JUST STOP IT ALREADY.

They aren’t spending your money to buy the vehicle. How many people need a ‘69 Camaro sitting in their garage? How often do they take it out for a nice cruise?

IT DOESN’T MATTER.

It is their money. They can do what they want with it. We, as a the whole enthusiast community, need to being such insufferable asshole, judgy douchebags over other people’s decisions. We have proven time after time that we refuse to put our money where our mouth is to actually influence the new car market.

Stop complaining that auto manufacturers don’t make “real” trucks when you aren’t out buying a stripped out regular cab with 4wd and a manual. What is a “real” truck anyway? Just because a person doesn’t use every single lb of payload or capacity everyday doesn’t make their truck any less of a truck. I’ve driven the enthusiast definition of a “real” truck. I learned to drive on a ‘92 F-150, long bed, 4wd, manual where the only option box ticked was for 4wd. Hell it didn’t even have a cassette deck or a v8. Manual windows and manual locks. That truck got beat to hell and back.

This doesn’t make it more of a truck bought by the guy who enjoys leather and seat warmers. To be fucking honest, the one with leather and seat heaters probably has more towing capacity.

There is no such thing as a “real” truck. The fp sounds like a bunch of whiny little bitches. If you aren’t throwing down you own cash on a new truck then shut the fuck up. This is getting real old. No one cares about how you want your perfect 2nd market truck. Your cares have zero influence on the original owner.

I’d also like to point out, so called “real” trucks are thrashed, beaten, and abused to within an inch of their damn life. A “real” truck doesn’t make it much past 100K miles. You can only load the bed with gravel and give no fucks so many times before you bend the frame and blow out the shocks.

For reference, the truck I learned to drive on made it to 125K miles. It was so beaten and used up it couldn’t be sold. It was scrapped. No one wants to buy a true “real” truck because they are rolling shit boxes that barely manage to turn over. When they do, they get loaded to the brim with 1,000 lbs of gravel and bounce down a two rut road, creaking, cracking and flexing the whole way.

Right. You want to buy that truck? Please. You want the cream puff with 60K highway miles in 7 years.

You know it. I know it.

JUST FUCKING STAHP

TL:DR Unless you are spending your cash on a new vehicle, stop complaining about the new car market and what a “real” vehicle is. No one is the position to change it cares what you think.

man, all I can say is I just want a small truck. that I would actually spend my money on. No i don’t mean a Colorado or a Tacoma small(not current any ways). I mean Small truck like the old datsun or old toyota’s even the old, old s-10 small. I don’t need a “real” truck that these people speak off, just something with a 6 foot ish bed, small but torquey engine that doesn’t suck to be in but also isn’t a huuuuuuge status symbol/fashion accessory. couldn’t care less if it’s uni-body and car based so long as it has at least 6 inches of suspension travel and 4wd/AWD as an option...

Sure, it’s their money, and they can do with it what they want. But likewise, it’s my opinion, and I can do with it what I want. That’s only fair.

I mean.... I don’t need body on frame, but I have it. And it’s not bad. And if someone said to get a real truck and then a project car, I’d ask them to pay for it. The whole attitude of “keyboard warrior” in most internet comments makes me sad.

This. The fucking enthusiast wolf pack . Sure I could have bought a mint S2000 or a few beat to shit NA miatas instead of my S600, as many keyboard warriors were all too happy to tell me, but at the end of the day, I'm the one spending the money. Fuck you keyboard jockeys.

Personally I’d go for something like:-

Ford Ranger Ute 2.2d 6speed manual.

Kinja'd!!!

or the

Ford Ranger Ute 3.2d 6speed manual.

Kinja'd!!!

However we don’t get the Ute form in the U.K. (unless we import one, yay for no 25 year rule) but the twin crew cab with a 2.2d is available immediately.

second hand whining. This was a fun read.

Hey, any Land Cruiser is no cooler than my Murano, they’re both REAL SUVs.

Everyone has their own personal litmus test, but I’m not sure what exactly an enthusiast is if you can’t peg one car as more desirable than another. People have their own choices of what is cool (or real), but this kum-ba-yah all cars/trucks/whatever are equal is some grade A bullshit.

Sorry that a very vocal portion of the Internet doesn’t like your taste in trucks.

If you’ve never driven a 3-on-the-tree, 4 wheel drum, no-power brakes, no power steering, no AC truck with no seatbelts, you don’t know what a truck is. Now go put that light bar on your Tacoma, and shave your beard for Christ’s sake.

Thank you for this. If everyone bought a car based on what they needed, we’d all drive 2CVs. Sure, I don’t need a truck and I’ve never towed with it and don’t use the bed too often, but I love mine. I love having V8 sound and power and 4wd when I need it. Plus I think it looks great. Do I need any of those things? No. But do I like having them? You bet. It’s all down to personal preference. I’m not gonna let someone tell me what I need and base my vehicle choice off of that.

I started buying trucks because I needed them to haul my music gear. At one point, my live bass rig took up the entire bed. I also haul other shit a lot of the time, too. Also, it rains a fuckton in Florida and the streets in Tampa and St Pete like to flood. I can still drive when this happens. Also, when a group of friends what to go out for the night, if you own a truck, you NEVER get asked to drive.

PREACH. I’m looking for a truck when my Outback dies way in the future. Do I need one? Hell no. Do I want one? Hell yes.

Even at this point, do I need a wagon? Nope. I rarely use the wagon to it’s full capabilities, but I love wagons and that’s what I wanted when I bought it. Do I need my 240Z? Absolutely not. It’s the farthest thing from utilitarian and sits in my garage 90% of the time, but it’s there cause I wanted it and love it.

Hey! I just sold that exact truck after owning it for 9 years. No joke, I just sold a 1972 F-100 3-on-the-tree 4-wheel drum, no-power brakes, no power steering, no AC.... (ok it had seat belts because they became standard that very year).

And although I now have another truck in its place, my BMW wagon hauls more trash to the dump than my truck, simply because I’m always driving it.
